Bereft

February 23, 2014

Heart sick
Soul ache
A balloon filled too full
Hiding behind my sternum,
Familiar tumultuous force
Behind the creaking dam
Presses hands of emotion
Against the cage of my ribs
with longing To break
Reach out, engulf
The barren landscape of
The heart’s prairie
Saturating my soil
Engorging her roots
Germinating hope
Welcoming grazing.
Humiliated
Knowing I love this pain
Of hope,
Desire to share my fields,
the uncertainty
Of fulfillment,
And the transmutation from hope to reality
Providing comfort, snare or trapdoor.
